Understanding Church

Isn’t a Church Just a Building?

The people who belong to God’s Church have made buildings to pray to Him in. So it’s natural that these buildings would come to be called ‘churches’.

But the term ‘church’ --- which came from some Greek words meaning ‘the Lord’s house’ --- was first inspired by a Greek word meaning ‘assembly’. This in turn came from some simpler Greek words meaning ‘to call forth’.

That is to say, God’s Church is the people who are called forth by God and assemble together to worship Him.
